About Us

Hello. Welcome to MySNAPBenefits.com. I'm glad you found this free resource.

Last year, I began volunteering with a Philadelphia-based charity that helps those on SNAP benefits get access to healthier food choices. Through my work with them, I learned how serious the issue of food insecurity is in the US.

Food insecurity means people don’t have sufficient money or resources to ensure they’ll have enough to eat. Some eat less, receive government assistance, or depend on community food banks while others simply go hungry.

I pushed myself to learn more. I wanted to understand why one of the richest countries in the world, with an overabundance of food, had anyone facing hunger. In the US, approximately 35% of our food supply—over 60 million tons—is wasted and goes uneaten. Only 13% of food that could be donated actually is. Food is the largest single component in landfills.

As I continued my research, I found that there wasn't one central place where someone could come to learn about SNAP benefits and resources in their area. That motivated me to create MySNAPBenefits.com, a state by state resource guide. It is completely free, and always will be. I began working on it in early 2026 and made it available in the summer. Since then, over 20,000 people have visited and used the site.

It's available in English and Spanish and includes a benefit calculator so you can learn the maximum benefit you might be eligible for. I also believe in trying to promote healthier food options, and so I also created a grocery basket calculator where you can compare the cost of healthy versus unhealthy options.

It also has a comprehensive directory of food resources in your area. From food banks to free school lunches, the site is regularly updated to ensure we have an up-to-date listing of help for anyone in search of assistance.

I hope you find this information helpful and useful.
